A Seminar on Interpretation & Translation Teaching and Research was held at GUCAS on April 21. Over thirty professionals, teachers and researchers representing ten universities convened to honor their commitment to the prospering MTI degree program. Professor Peng Gong, the Dean of the Foreign Languages Department delivered the welcome speech, and Deputy Dean Professor Liu Bin was present at the seminar. Lu Xinchao chaired the seminar. Keynote speakers Professor Li Changshuan from Beijing Foreign Studies University and Professor Zhang Wei from Beijing Language and Cultural University shared their insights on translation teaching and interpreting research, respectively. Among other speakers were Professor Lv Shisheng from Nankai University, Lu Xinchao from GUCAS and Wang Huashu from Peking University. They addressed the seminar with perspectives on “Interpreter as a Cultural Mediator,” “Language, Meaning, Sense and Interpreting,” and “IT and Translation.” The seminar, according to one teacher, was “fruitful and has really offered food for thought.” The Foreign Languages Department at GUCAS expressed the hope to make the gathering a regular event. Dean Peng Gong suggested: “We are expecting more exchanges of this sort so that more first class practices could be available to people with interest in this field.”
